TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Baqeri slammed the EU's double standards regarding the situation of human rights in Iran, saying that the European states are not entitled to be concerned about the matter in the country.

Iran's top negotiator in the talks to resurrect the 2015 nuclear deal has chastised the European Union for remaining silent in the face of US violations of Iranians' rights while expressing concern about the country's human rights situation.

Baqeri made the remark in a Monday tweet, seemingly in response to some European countries' interventionist remarks about the recent riots in Iran.

He said in a series of tweets on Monday, that the basic question is how can the European States "be concerned about the situation of human rights in Iran" when they "refuse to provide medicine and bandages needed to mitigate the endless sufferings and pains of butterfly children and cause the death of these innocent children?"

"EU's deafening silence and over-compliance with the US's unlawful unilateral sanctions, as well as widespread and systematic violations of the human rights of innocent Iranian people," as documented by Alena Douhan, the UN Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, is emblematic of its double standards vis- -vis human rights," he stated.

Baqeri also questioned European countries' claims that they are concerned about the state of human rights in Iran while continuing to comply with US-led sanctions on medicine and medical equipment.

In a statement issued on behalf of the EU on Sunday, Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell condemned Tehran for using "disproportionate" force against protesters.

Protests erupted in Tehran and other Iranian cities on September 16 following the death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman who died in a hospital just a few days after collapsing at a police station in the capital, where she and a group of others were receiving educational training on dress code rules.

Despite Iranian officials' clarification of the circumstances surrounding Amini's death, violent street protests have resulted in attacks on security officers and vandalism of public property and holy sites.

The US sanctions against Iran have been choking up the financial channels that could be used towards providing the Islamic Republic with the cure for epidermolysis bullosa (EB) sufferers and other direly-needed medical supplies.

Washington reinstated the cruel economic sanctions after unilaterally abandoning the 2015 deal between the Islamic Republic and world powers.

Iran's Ambassador to Sweden Ahmad Ma'soumifar said in July that a Swedish pharmaceutical company keeps halting the supply of special bandages needed to treat Iranian patients suffering from EB in full compliance with American sanctions on Iran.

"Is this not a blatant violation of the rights of children and a crime against humanity?" wrote Ma'soumifar on his Twitter page.
